Laser Technology: Bringing Science Fiction Movie Scenes to Life

A new technology to animate holographic images created by lasers has taken the development of lasers to a new level, bringing even more surprises. Most of the time, you need a special screen to display the 3D hologram, and the space to display the 3D effect is very limited. The image does appear to exist in three dimensions, but if we stand in another Angle, we may not see anything.

Instead of a screen, the researchers used laser diodes: an invisible laser manipulates tiny, opaque particles floating in the air, and a visible laser illuminates particles through a predetermined path in a different color. What the naked eye sees seems to be a floating image, bringing a new visual experience to people. By developing and refining the optical trap display technology, the researchers have improved the performance of the images by playing animations in real time in front of the viewer's eyes. Shown a mini version of Star Trek Wars, complete with simulated explosions, and the lightsabers used in the duel are all made of lasers, showing off stunning visual effects. In addition, researchers have come up with ways to show holographic animations interacting with real objects. Like an animated character walking around our fingers. Based on optical tricks such as perspective and parallax motion, holograms may look much bigger when projected before our eyes than they really are, so interesting applications for smart glasses development have yet to be discovered.

Although the new technology has brought people a kind of brand-new visual experience, but the display of the hologram is very small, people need to use a camera with a macro lens, or even a microscope to see effect in detail, based on a laser beam control mode, a tiny floating particles size must be very small. To solve this problem, the team is trying to combine multiple moving particles to adjust the size of the display image. Laser technology provides the possibility for the realisation of science fiction films or novels. In addition to bringing novel and interesting rendering effects, we expect it to have a broader application field.
